Every winter in Northern Kentucky we get at least one week of very cold weather, which freezes our pond so we can ice skate and play broomball. And this winter was no exception, as we’ve been in a deep freeze since before New Years Eve.

Theresa is shoveling snow off the ice on the pond. Note to self: Keep the pond clear of snow. We discovered that water will not freeze as well if it has a thick layer of snow on top of it. Based on previous years’ experience, the ice should’ve been 4-6” thick by now. But this year the ice sat under 6” of snow and grew to only about 1-1/2” to 2” thick, which was barely safe enough for us to play on it.
Let the games begin!
We’re practicing for the 2010 Broomball Olympics.
It turned out to be a beautiful, sunny day and almost made it above freezing.
After broomball, we progressed to sledding and snowball fights.
