More Jabba the Toad
posted by: Timm in Cricket Lane, Wildlife on May 26th, 2010 |

Much to our delight, Jabba the Toad has returned to live another summer on our porch!

Here is Jabba in her very own toad bath.  Well, it’s not hers exclusively … the dogs also use it as a water bowl, sometimes taking a drink while Jabba is swimming!  But neither seem to mind each other, and Jabba seems to enjoy the protection the dogs give her from predators.

For some reason the entire universe makes sense when I look at this photo: a toad swimming in a toad bowl.

By the way, you may have noticed from my wording above that we think Jabba is a female.  No, we haven’t flipped her over for a biological examination.  However, we do believe this American Toad is a female because: she’s very fat, has thin arms, her skin is rough with many bumps, her throat color is consistent, and she doesn’t croak.

  1. I agree, seeing Jabba in her bowl puts a smile on your face and for a moment everything is right in the universe.

  2. It can be hard to tell. Our “Big Boy” lizard turned out to be “Big Girl” when she started laying eggs!

Is Jabba the one you thought met her demise last fall?

Fun anyway – she’ll become domesticated! Nice easy living at the Martin’s!
