Every day I walk down to the mailbox to fetch the mail. It’s about a half-mile round trip, including the equivalent of a 14-story climb on the way back. It’s a nice way to help stay in shape.
The past few days I’ve noticed a really foul smell of death near the mailbox. So yesterday while walking over to the Big Bone Lick National Natural Landmark dedication ceremony, I took a quick detour to see if I could find the source of this stench.
It didn’t take me long to find a decomposing deer covered with thousands of slimy little maggots. What impressed me was the sound of them chewing the rotted flesh. Here are a few photos and a video:

It’s tough to discern, but that hissing sound you hear in this video is from the maggots crawling and chewing the rotted corpse!
Ryan said: What are those? I told him worms and he said “ICK!!!!!”
No I did not play tne video for him, I watched it and it was like an episode of CSI!
